A Brief History of M.S. Carver Lumber Company
(2001)

1946

Company founded as M.S. Carver Roofing Company by Maurice “Red” Carver.
1949
-
Company begins building and selling garages, which marks its beginning as a full-line lumberyard operating under the name “M.S. Carver Lumber Company”.
1954
-
“Red” Carver is killed in a private air crash, but the Carver family retains control of the company, eventually 100% controlled by Richard E. Carver, “Red’s” son.
1956
-
Company is incorporated and a major renovation of the main yard and office at 603 E. War Memorial Drive in Peoria is substantially underway.

1962

Company constructs a second, larger yard on 8 acres located in the newly formed Pioneer Industrial Park at 8700 N. University St., Peoria, IL., for purposes of providing exclusive services to professional Contractors. Rail access makes it possible to reload core products that are transported to the War Memorial Dr. facility via company trucks.
1975 - Company constructs a new 10,000 sq. ft. "Home Center", replacing the buildings constructed during the 1950's.

Company sells its original headquarters on War Memorial Dr. and consolidates all operations at the 8700 N. University St. location.
1993

Company formally enters manufacturing arena by dedicating space and investing in equipment to manufacture floor trusses and wall panels.

Company constructs a new 3200 sq. ft. “Home Design Showroom” at the University St. location and commits itself to a superior level of service to builders and their clients.

Employees form an ESOP and purchase the company from the Richard E. Carver Family. Operations continue under the corporate name of “M.S. Carver Lumber Company”, commonly known as “Carver Lumber Company” to the community at large.

Company purchases the operating assets of Tremont Lumber Company and adds them to the M.S. Carver Lumber Company corporation, still headquartered and operating at 8700 N. University St. The Tremont yard continues its 50 year history of being operated as “Tremont Lumber Company” at its original location at 111 N. West St. in Tremont, IL., which boasts a newly remodeled showroom of its own.
